Project Description

Kauai Island Utility Cooperative sought to decrease dependence on oil and decrease energy costs by utilizing solar power.

REC Solar completed construction of the second-largest solar electric system in the state of Hawaii, generating enough clean energy to meet 5% of Kauai’s annual needs. The system is now generating electricity at a cost of about 12.5 cents per kilowatt hour, compared to about 24 cents by means of burning oil.

KIUC Anahola David Bissel
