San Luis Obispo, Calif. — REC Solar, a nationwide renewable energy Independent Power Producer (IPP), was recognized as one of the nation’s Top Solar Developers by industry publication Solar Power World.
Every year, Solar Power World publishes its Top Solar Contractors List to recognize the work of U.S. solar contractors and developers committed to decarbonizing the grid and advancing new solar installations. The list is categorized by service type, market segment, and state, and is ranked by installed capacity in 2024.
REC Solar’s recognition as a Top Solar Developer coincides with the company’s return to the industry as an IPP with demonstrated capabilities in financing, owning and operating solar assets.
To date, REC Solar owns and operates over 290 MW of commercial solar and storage assets nationwide. In addition to expanding its operating fleet, REC Solar specializes in project financing and acquisitions of solar projects and portfolios, as well as greenfield development of small utility-scale solar projects.
In 2024, REC Solar completed over 36 MW of solar projects that spanned the country – from onsite solar for food and beverage manufacturers and municipalities in California to community solar in New York to an onsite solar + battery microgrid system for a luxury resort in Hawaii.
Notable 2024 projects include:
- A solar canopy installed at Anaheim Transportation Network (ATN) ‘s EV charging hub – The region’s first-of-its-kind EV charging hub includes a solar canopy that provides 25% of ATN’s total expected energy consumption and is seamlessly integrated into a microgrid system. REC Solar continues to own, operate, and maintain the solar canopy under a 20-year PPA agreement.
- A 2.16 MW ground mount solar array near Central Contra Costa Sanitary District (Central San) ‘s Martinez wastewater treatment plant – The solar array was financed as a 25-year PPA and is estimated to generate nearly $6 million in net electricity bill savings for Central San and its customers over this period.
- A 1.2 MW rooftop solar array at Trinchero Family Estates’ Paso Robles winery – The array is part of a series of solar projects spanning four of the winery’s properties. Financed through a PPA, the system supports the winery’s sustainability goals while shifting the project from a costly capital expense to a predictable monthly payment.
Solar Power World’s 2025 Top Solar Contractors List highlights the record growth of the solar industry: 2024 was the largest single year of new capacity added to the grid by any energy technology in over two decades. Further, across the U.S., nearly 50 GW of new solar capacity was added in 2024, with solar and storage accounting for 84% of all new electric generating capacity added to the grid.
“REC Solar is honored to have been recognized as a Top Solar Developer. It’s a reflection of our team’s passion for helping customers meet sustainability goals and contributing to the growth of the U.S. solar industry,” said REC Solar CEO Robb Jetty. “With each new project added to our operating fleet, we’re not only accelerating the transition to clean energy – we’re creating lasting value for our customers, our partners and the communities they serve.”
