REC Solar Career Opportunities
We’re a collaborative, hardworking team driven by a passion for solar and one collective mission: Accelerating the nationwide transition to clean energy. If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves, make a meaningful impact and tackle goals both big and small, apply for one of our job openings below.
The Manager of Performance Engineering will lead the development and execution of data-driven performance optimization strategies across a growing fleet of distributed solar PV and hybrid (solar + BESS) assets. This role requires a leader with deep technical expertise in data systems, analytics, and engineering who can build a scalable performance engineering function that delivers measurable value. The ideal candidate blends hands-on engineering skills with strategic thinking to develop tools, systems, and processes that improve fleet-wide performance and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Data Architecture & Innovation: Design and implement structured data systems (including automated loss allocation, digital twins, and an expected power engine) to enable scalable performance reporting aligned to the business model. Evaluate build vs. buy options and enhance existing data structures as needed. Partner with IT to define database requirements that support growth, analytics, and future AI/ML applications.
- Fleet Performance Optimization: Use data science, SCADA/DAS data, and engineering models to identify underperformance and improvement opportunities across the fleet. Build tools for proactive optimization (e.g., wash optimization, cost-benefit analysis for corrective repairs, ticket prioritization, degradation analysis, string-outage detection, and tracker-outage detection).
- Monitoring & Reporting Systems: Develop and maintain scalable performance reporting tools independent of DAS or O&M providers. Oversee integration of new sites into monitoring platforms and ensure data readiness at COD.
- Performance Guarantee Management: Where applicable, administer and automate performance guarantee tracking, reporting, and claims support.
- Technical Support & Collaboration: Provide Level 2 reactive performance analyses for individual projects and support Technical Asset Managers with data-driven troubleshooting. Lead and contribute to root-cause analyses and cross-functional initiatives such as repowering, commissioning, and asset optimization.
- Platform Management: Own governance for fleet monitoring platforms (DAS, SCADA, historian, and reporting layers) to ensure connectivity, data integrity, and reliable near-real-time visibility. Coordinate with vendors, integrators, and internal teams on upgrades, cybersecurity requirements, and issue resolution.
- Team Leadership: Hire, develop, and lead a team of engineers and analysts focused on data quality, platform uptime, vendor risk management, performance analytics, and automated cost-benefit analysis. Build the organization thoughtfully by defining clear roles, demonstrating business value for each hire, and aligning team structure and tooling with the business model.
- Strategic Development Support: Support front-end diligence for acquisitions and new project development. Partner with the investment team on M&A by evaluating operational performance, forecasting production, and informing operating expense assumptions.
- Innovation & AI Integration: Identify and deploy predictive analytics, machine learning, and AI solutions that improve availability, production, and cost efficiency, with appropriate validation and governance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Data Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in renewable energy, with a focus on performance engineering, data systems, and analytics.
- Proven track record of building and managing high-performing technical teams.
- Deep knowledge of SCADA/DAS systems, solar PV performance modeling, and data architecture.
- Experience with performance modeling tools such as PVsyst, SAM, Pvlib, SolarFarmer, and similar platforms.
- Strong analytical and programming skills; experience with Python, SQL, and dashboarding tools (e.g., PowerBI, Datarails).
- Experience implementing AI/ML solutions in operational environments.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to manage internal and external stakeholders.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and building systems from the ground up.
- Must be curious, self-motivated, collaborative, and have strong written communication skills.
