The Associate, Project Finance will play a key role in the underwriting, analysis and execution of new project financing opportunities.
Reporting to Senior Manager, Project Finance, this individual will lead key financial modelling and underwriting workstreams and analysis functions across PPA financing and M&A opportunities. This position requires extensive modelling experience, attention to detail, and a self-starter mentality. Additionally, this individual should have knowledge of energy project-level fundamentals and the ability to work collaboratively across the REC Solar organization and external parties in the renewable energy financing community. Ideally, the candidate has demonstrated experience in understanding renewable energy project value drivers and modelling complex transaction structures across equity, debt, and tax equity.
Additionally, this individual will play a key role in helping the company prioritize the company’s greenfield and acquisition portfolio based on project economics and will assist in commercial negotiations (PPA, EPC, etc.) to confirm key commercial contracts are executed in a financeable manner.
Responsibilities
Project Finance
- Lead modeling and analysis of PPA contracting and acquisition opportunities for portfolios of distributed solar (behind the meter and front of the meter) and energy storage assets.
- Work closely with the CIO and Senior Manager, Project Finance to optimize execution strategy to create financial underwriting and process efficiency.
- Provide financial guidance to the development and sales teams by providing financial oversight / guidance / analysis of projects.
Other
- With the guidance of the CIO and Senior Manager, Project Finance, lead the financial modelling / analysis for new markets and/or new technologies being entered into or used by the company.
- Maintain up to date financial models within existing markets.
- Stay abreast of financial market developments (products and macro trends), make financial model updates, and provide recommendations on changes in company market strategy, based on changes in local, state, and federal financial incentives.
Qualifications
- Deep demonstrated experience in Excel modelling and analysis, ideally in the renewable energy sector. Distributed generation financing experience is a plus, but not required.
- Thorough understanding of the tax equity and debt frameworks for renewable energy, ideally with demonstrated experience managing debt or tax equity financing processes.
- Proven track record of organizing teams internally and appropriately managing external stakeholders and complex processes.
- Ability to utilize Excel, create excel trackers, and be able to use Word and PowerPoint for reporting/presentations via Teams or in person.
- Bachelor’s degree, ideally with a concentration in finance, economics, or business. MBA is a plus, but not required.
- Strong work ethic, self-starter, ability to drive transactions and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced work environment.

The Senior Manager of M&A is responsible for evaluating, negotiating, and executing project acquisitions and partnerships, which could include supporting corporate opportunities. This position will be the deal team leader responsible for selecting and prioritizing opportunities, completing due diligence, modeling deal economics, negotiating acquisition or partnership documents, and securing internal approval. This role requires an understanding of solar development, financing, construction, valuation and financial structuring to support successful closings. The position will report to REC Solar’s Director of M&A.
Responsibilities
- Identify potential project acquisition targets and partnership opportunities (JDAs, DSAs etc.), and review for strategic fit, risk-adjusted economics, and resource allocation.
- Independently structure deals for projects or portfolios (with CEO/Director of M&A feedback). Manage project acquisitions and partnerships from pricing to term sheet through due diligence to closing.
- Maintain network of solar developers and develop new relationships with potential partners while also building strong internal relationships across all functions necessary to be successful.
- Identify and quantify key risks with potential project acquisitions and work with internal teams to mitigate those risks.
- Work closely with the CEO, CIO and Director of M&A to develop and execute strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with the project finance team to ensure financial model inputs and outputs are accurate and current, and that acquisition opportunities and structures align with financing vehicles.
- Review and assess deal documentation such as proposals, teasers, management presentations, third-party service providers in due diligence, deal valuation and financial structuring.
- Understand project design and economic drivers, analyze market factors, financing terms, new legislation/regulation for impact to project economics and optimize acquisitions profitability.
- Prepare, and lead on the presentation of, the financial model and investment memo to the management team and the board of directors for decision making.
- Develop and maintain business case and financial models for the acquisition or divestment of renewable energy projects and partnerships.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in project acquisitions and a strong record of accomplishment in relevant roles.
- Renewable energy, power industry, or real property/infrastructure asset acquisition experience required.
- Experienced with analyzing opportunities and using detailed financial analysis to arrive at recommendations. Ability to communicate recommendation and rationale clearly.
- Self-starter who is able to independently uncover M&A and partnership opportunities (ideally bilateral) within REC’s target markets.
- Strong project, process and organizational skills including creating and managing deal timeline schedules.
- Significant experience with financial modeling, valuation methods, and acquisition structures.
- Ability to thrive in a highly dynamic, fast-paced project environment, with the ability to deliver high-quality solutions while maintaining positive relationships with your colleagues and stakeholders
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills that create results through teamwork.
- Corporate development or investment banking experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s Degree required, and relevant previous transaction experience strongly preferred.
- Experience working in MS Office Suite (Office, Excel, and Powerpoint)
The Business Development Manager is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, and facilitating project finance opportunities for REC ownership from third-party developers & EPC contractors (Strategic Partners). This may involve supporting the Partners’ engagements or negotiations with commercial customers, landowners, or PPA off-takers. This position will also coordinate with internal REC Solar resources for completing due diligence, modeling deal economics, negotiating acquisition or partnership documents, and securing internal approvals.
This role requires an understanding of sales, development, financing, engineering, construction, and financial structuring to support successfully shepherding projects from inception to COD. The position will report to REC Solar’s Director of Strategic Partnerships.
Responsibilities

- Serve on REC Solar’s Strategic Partnership team that is focused on identifying potential solar, battery storage, and microgrid project acquisition targets and partnership opportunities with third-party EPC providers looking for a financing solution for their projects, particularly in the eastern US.
- Develop & maintain a network of solar developers/contractors while also building strong internal relationships across all functions necessary to be successful.
- Coordinate and manage internal REC Solar resources cross-functionally to evaluate opportunities, generate proposals, and close new project sales.
- Identify and quantify key risks with potential projects and work with internal teams to mitigate those risks.
- Understand project design and economic drivers, analyze market factors, financing terms, new legislation/regulation for impact to project economics and optimize acquisitions profitability.
- Assist with the preparation and presentation of memos/reports to the management team for decision making.
- Proficiently perform all required sales activities including: sales prospecting, partner development, account management, site evaluations, proposals, presentations, networking, pipeline reporting, contract negotiation, and other general business functions in support of the sales efforts.
Qualifications
- Ability to operate with integrity.
- Have a demonstrated history of successfully meeting or exceeding quota in an energy industry B2B sales environment.
- Comfortability presenting to executives, developers, financiers/investors, & contractors.
- Understanding of solar policies, incentives, revenue streams, and deal structuring for both BTM & FTM projects.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross functionally.
- Be able to travel as needed (estimated at 10%-30% of the time)
- Ability to manage multiple projects with many deliverables and prioritize competing demands.
- Self-starter who is able to independently uncover opportunities (ideally bilateral) within REC’s target markets, including behind-the-meter and front-of-the-meter projects.

- 4 years of experience in business development experience in the energy industry, preferably in solar, involving contracting vehicles such as MIPA, PPA, & EPC.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Experience working in MS Office Suite (Office, Excel, etc.) & CRM platforms such as SalesForce
