1997
It begins with a vision
California Polytechnic State University graduates Judy Staley and Fred Sisson cofound REC (Renewable Energy Concepts) Solar.
Their goal? To make the world a better place for future generations.
2005
Powering ahead
Acquired by Mainstream Energy Corporation, REC Solar continues to operate independently under its new parent company.
2007
Aloha, solar
REC Solar expands its operations to Hawai’i, where it has since maintained a permanent presence as one of the state’s premier solar IPPs.
2014
Shifting gears
REC Solar sells its residential division to Sunrun, shifting its business model to exclusively focus on commercial solar.
2015-2021
A major investment
Duke Energy acquires a majority stake in REC Solar, later assuming full ownership and investing $225 million in REC Solar projects. In 2021, REC Solar joins forces with Duke Energy Renewables and Duke Energy One to launch Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions, a Duke Energy brand offering integrated clean energy solutions and resiliency services.
2023
Poised for growth
An investment fund managed by ArcLight Capital Partners announces its acquisition of REC Solar. Under ArcLight, REC Solar expands its capabilities to develop, finance, own, and operate solar and storage projects on a greater scale.

Scaling with purpose
Today, we are a solar IPP that develops, finances, owns and operates onsite solar and small-utility-scale solar and storage projects. From 5 MW onsite solar systems to 75+ MW utility-scale solutions, our flexible approach ensures reliable solar electricity that meets our customers’ sustainability needs today and scales with them for the future.
